After entering the starting point, destination, quantity and frequency for your shipment, the ECO Calculator reveals the CO2 equiv.* emissions produced by both transport modes and highlight the savings that are made. For example, with just a few clicks you can discover that on the Marseille-Liverpool route for each parcel 2 kg CO2 equiv. are emitted for road transport and 16,1 kg CO2 equiv. are emitted for air transport. This means that shipment by air emits around eight times more CO2 equiv. than shipment by road. The ratio stays the same whether you send 10, 20 or 30 parcels. The CO2 equiv. savings are also compared with the amount of litres diesel, light bulbs and balloons to make the amount of emissions more tangible.
The ECO Calculator is an easy-to-use tool and shows impressively how much CO2 equiv. the transport by aircraft and by truck emits. It calculates the emissions which are relevant to the greenhouse effect and are caused by the transportation of parcels between 98 European cities in 36 countries. The ECO Calculator can therefore be used exclusively to calculate the emissions from international consignments (the country of origin and country of destination may not be identical). National consignments are excluded from the calculation as it can be assumed that these are generally transported by road and not by aeroplane.
